Greenhaw Lodge Care Home in Derry / Londonderry held its Garden Fete on Saturday 6th August. Luckily the Irish weather was kind to visitors during the Greenhaw Lodge Garden Fete.

The event involved live music by local musician Tommy McGlinchey. Residents and visitors enjoyed a jive to memorable tracks of yesteryear with a slice of comedy in between tunes for good measure. A finger food buffet was also on offer with a varied range of delicious food complemented by hot and cold drinks.

Local Tesco ‘Community Champions’ worked alongside staff at Greenhaw Lodge to decorate the garden in preparation for the seasonal event. Tesco donated raffle prizes to raise money for the Residents Comfort Fund and provided a selection of cakes and confectionary. Children weren’t left out, goodie bags filled with fun colouring books and stickers ensured younger visitors could indulge in some colour creativity.

Raffle prizes ranged from an overnight stay in a 4-star hotel to an electric toothbrush, kitchen appliances and a selection of hampers to name a few! Raffle ticket sales went through the roof as visitors became aware of what was up for grabs helping to raise just under £300. Greenhaw Lodge believe that ‘our residents do not live in our work, we work in their home’ and firmly extend the offer of: ‘Our door is always open’. So if you are looking for high quality dementia care or specialist dementia services why not visit their website or call and speak to the Home Manager, Ronagh McCaul.

Further to the recent announcement by the Health Minister, facilitating contact with your loved ones will need to be formally risk assessed to ensure that visiting can happen in the safest way possible. Guidelines have just been received which will need to be considered carefully. Communication around how the organisation will commence visiting will be issued at the start of next week.

Visiting will remained closed until then, however we would encourage virtual visiting and telephone contact with the Homes to continue, as we know that this has worked really well so far. Our main focus will always be the safety of all residents and staff within our care. Our staff teams have been superb and continue to demonstrate their dedication and commitment in keeping your loved ones protected at this time.

Many thanks for your continued support, understanding and patience.
