The Acute Life Threatening Events Recognition and Treatment (ALERT) course was originally developed by the Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. This course equips nursing staff to assess and manage residents who present with signs of clinical deterioration such as breathlessness, airway compromise and sepsis. The course runs over 1 day and the certificate does not require renewal. Care Circle and Larchwood Care (NI) in partnership with Portsmouth Hospitals NHT Trust have signed up for a licence agreement to enable us to provide training to all registered nursing staff in the next two years in ALERT. Pet Therapy is aimed at improving residents social, emotional, and cognitive functioning. It is also hoped that the use of animals as a therapy method can be motivational and stimulating for those involved. Residents were thrilled when Greenhaw Lodge’s new Activity Co-ordinator, Colleen Doherty brought in her pet dog Daisy on Monday 25th May. Many residents, including Tommy Moore have a great love for dogs, he reminisced when speaking about a pet dog he once had named ‘Pepsi’. Other residents including Doreen Stitt enjoyed petting Daisy and giving her warm hugs, which Daisy may have enjoyed more than Doreen.
Karolanne Dillon has been a Care Assistant at Culmore Manor Care Home for over 15 years. On Sunday 31st May 2015, Karolanne took part in The Walled City Marathon in Londonderry. The motivation for her heroic test of stamina was Rhys. Read more
