This month the residents at Apple Blossom Lodge participated in a Water Rocket Challenge organised by Staff Nurse, John Watkins along with the help of Trevor Buckley, Apple Blossom Lodge’s maintenance man who created the rocket launcher.
Residents designed and created their own rockets which were made from recycled plastic bottles. With the aid of water and a pump, the rockets were launched into the air one at a time. Independent adjudicator, Heather Maxwell scored each rocket’s performance based on height, trajectory and distance reached. The two winners of our chosen categories of Best Overall Rocket and Best Designed Rocket were Philip Benson and Dan Kennedy respectively. Each winner received a special pen and a box of chocolates.
Both residents and staff alike had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day not only because of the competition but also due to the glorious sunshine that almost matched the heat of the rockets!
That evening, kitchen staff decided to continue the festivities with a wonderful barbeque followed by ice lollies for everyone at Apple Blossom Lodge.
