In light of the recent development of new cases of the Coronavirus throughout Northern Ireland, we are writing to advise that all non-urgent visits to the Homes will be temporarily suspended with effect from Tuesday 1st September 2020. Following our previous correspondence with the introduction of outdoor visiting, we did confirm that we would continue to monitor the situation and notify you of any further updates in relation to visiting arrangements.

Additionally, we are cancelling local community and external entertainment. Outings from the Homes to day centres and social outings are unfortunately also being suspended. Our staff will do all they can to ensure that life in our Homes remain as comfortable and sociable as possible. We will still ensure that vital medical appointments will be kept where possible.

We fully acknowledge what a difficult time this has been and how hard it is to be separated from your loved one during these unprecedented times. However, with the recent increases of the “R-factor” and the higher incidences of clusters in numerous community areas, we remain cautious that complacency could particularly impact residents living in our Care Homes. It is anticipated that a further spike in cases will occur when the majority of schools return on a full-time basis from next week.

Specifically, we would ask that you to adhere to the following:

  • You may benefit from telephoning the Home to enquire regarding your loved one during business hours 9am-5pm.
  • Children will not be permitted to visit our Homes.
  • If your visit to the Home is urgent or non-preventable, you are asked to sanitise your hands using alcohol gel on entry and to proceed directly to the room of your loved one.  Please note only one visitor per resident will be permitted access at any one time.
  • Please note while in the building you must not access the communal lounges, dining rooms or ancillary areas of the Home.
  • Those who are displaying any signs of colds, flu or respiratory disease will not be permitted access and are asked to follow Public Health Agency guidelines on their website.

Having taken such decisions early previously, which prevented spread to and from the community, the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff in Larchwood Care remains paramount.

Please be assured that these measures are being implemented to keep your loved ones and all other residents as safe as possible. We have not taken this decision lightly and appreciate that this may cause some discomfort but feel this is a necessary step to take of social responsibility. Our staff teams have been superb and continue to demonstrate their dedication and commitment in keeping your loved one protected.

We plan to review this decision again at the end of September. If you have any questions please contact the Home Manager as I know they will be only too happy to help.

Thank-you for your continued support, understanding and patience at this time.

Yours sincerely,

Nuala Green
