At Kingsland Care Centre, Bangor we were honoured to join in the celebrations as one of our resident’s Rita celebrated 60 years of marriage to Joe. It turned out to be a ‘diamond’ day as Rita received a wonderful bouquet of her favourite flowers. Even the Queen was in the know! Her Majesty sent a special card to mark the 60th anniversary. This made Rita’s day as the Queen holds a special place in her heart.
Another special surprise came from Hugo Duncan, Radio Ulster who wished the couple a very happy anniversary and played Jolene by Dolly Parton on his Monday afternoon show.
Victoria, our Activities Coordinator, arranged a special tea party on Friday 4th February to start the celebrations in spectacular style! The residents enjoyed special wee nibbles prepared by Dorothy our cook and Janice her assistant. A good time was definitely had as residents laughter could be heard throughout the Home! On the day itself, Keris, Clinical Lead Nurse and Chloe, Care Assistant made sure that Rita got a lovely spa quality shower, hair and makeup session.
Mick, Administrator informed everyone to tune in to the radio between 1pm and 3pm to hear the special request for Rita and Joe from their family. Victoria became chief photographer and captured some great pictures of Rita, Joe, friends and family to preserve the day for generations to come.
When asked the secret of a successful marriage Rita responded ‘I love my children and I love my husband, always be nice to them!’
The fun did not stop there as a big family party was held the following weekend at Kingsland.
One of the larger resident’s lounges, with a stunning view of Ballyholme Bay, ensured the diamond anniversary location was fit for a Queen.
Congratulations to Rita and Joe from all your friends at Kingsland Care Home.
